Soothing Baby – My Top 3 Tips

I just went live in Facebook education group, Katie Stephens Education, and we talked about tips for soothing baby! I promised them 1 tip and came through with 3 because #enneagram2! Haha.

So naturally I’ve got to come in with a blog post explaining all the things! These are intended for other newborn photographers but if you’re a parent, a lot of these can be useful, too!

#1 Tip to Soothing Baby

Meet my best friend, the Baby Shusher. It seriously is exactly what it sounds like. It says “shhh shhhhh shhh” over and over again. I’m pretty sure it’s the recording of an actual human voice but regardless, the Baby Shusher is my right hand man and I couldn’t attend a session without it!

Tip #2

Heat. My personal philosophy is if ya ain’t sweating, it ain’t hot enough. Which is super ironic seeing as my house rarely goes above 68 degrees year round and I can sweat in 30 degree weather, but I digress. Seriously, newborn babies really love the heat. They feel warm and cozy. You don’t want it so hot that baby is sweating but that space heater is your new best friend.

Tip #3

Meet my new friend, the Lullavibe. This tool is new to my classic arsenal of secret weapons but man has she left a mighty impact. Babies love gentle vibration and movement (ask my second child how I know that). The lullavibe is a gentle little vibration that I can add into a prop or behind baby on the posing table. I try and reserve this one if baby is touchy or needs a little extra soothing but she always there to lend a helping hand.

Bonus Tip for Soothing Baby: #4

If all else fails…just swaddle baby. And not with the cute stacked hands on their chest/under their chin. Hands down and by their side to prevent a ton of movement and the chance to break free from the baby approved straight jacket. While it’s true, that not all babies enjoy being swaddled, I haven’t met one that didn’t fall asleep in my Swaddle Pro (i guess you got a bonus tip 2 for 1 in that one!). Highly recommend having one of those suckers on hand, too! You can check out 2 of My Favorite Wraps here!

I hope this was helpful! Be sure and checkout my shop for more resources and course!
