Each photographer has a different style and approach. I prefer lots of earth tones like brown, sage green, dusty pink, etc. Others may prefer bright colors like yellow, pinks, and purples. Just like having different styles, most photographers have a favorite lens for their genre of photography. Quite honestly, many photographers have different favorites based on their style, also.
I want to start off by telling you what I have in my camera bag! What I have to choose from, if you will. I own the following:
I use all the different lenses for different things at different times. However, that’s a post for another day.
My number one go to / favorite lens for newborn photography is my 35mm 1.4! I bought the 24-70mm and tried really hard to love it. Like so hard. But I kept coming back to my 35mm. 1.4. It’s my workhorse and will likely always be my favorite for studio photography!

Fun fact: the 35mm 1.4 is the first lens I bought when I began to invest in gear and upgrade!
If you’re just starting in newborn photography, you’re in the prime time to find a favorite lens. It may look differently for you whether it’s a 35mm, 50mm, or 24-70mm. It will depend a lot on your style and space you’re shooting in. Another reason I love my 35mm is because I feel that I’m able to get the best angles with it!
